PokerStars, the largest online poker room in the world, today announced the launch of an Italian only version of their poker site.  PokerStars were granted a license to offer online poker in Italy by the Amministrazione Autonoma dei Monopoli di Stato (AAMS).

The new license comes with restrictions laid down under Italian law which will allow Italian players compete in real money online tournaments with fees ranging from EUR 0.50 to a maximum of EUR 100.00

According to Team PokerStars Professional Player Dario Minieri, "Players on PokerStars.it will have the opportunity to win their entry into famous international poker events such as the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. These competitions require players to have the right mix of skill, training, concentration and luck,"

Online poker has seen remarkable growth in Italy with the success of Italian poker players like Team PokerStars Pro Dario and Luca Pagano. Market research indicates that during the first year of online poker being legalized, half a million accounts will be opened throughout the Italian poker industry creating a EUR 400 million poker market.
