PokerStars Adds Asian Poker Game Badugi
Dec 3, 2008 - 11:37:56 AM
PokerStars have introduced a new game called Badugi (BA-DOO-GEE) that is a weird mix of draw poker, razz and lowball. What makes Badugi unusual is that the object of the game is to hold the lowest 4 card hand of each suit, meaning that the best possible starting hand is a 4-3-2-A.
The game originated in Asia and is particularly popular in China and Korea. Bodugi has shown strong growth in the west over the past few years since being added to poker rooms such as Paddy Power and Doyles.
PokerStars is currently running both tournaments and sit-and-gos of this classic poker variant. Doyles Room removed the game earlier this year due to lack of interest, so it remains to be seen if Badugi will prove popular with PokerStars players.
