Following the success of the first Dream Team Poker event, held back in November 2008, organisers have announced that the tournament will be returning in 2009. For the first time the event will be open to the public and will run from March 27th - 29th at the World Series of Poker room at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
The buy-in for this no-limit hold'em event will be $500 + $50 per player, with three players per team. Organisers expect the second Dream Team Poker event to draw 100 teams, or a total of 300 players who will compete for an estimated $150,000 prize pool.
Player compete individually at the Dream Team Poker event but they also earn points for their team based on where they get knocked out of the event, which means they sill have an incentive to stay engaged in the tournament even after they've been eliminated. The unique team based format ensures that all players have a better chance of winning part of the prize pool, either as an individual player or as part of a winning team.
The inaugural Dream Team Poker event, held at The Hard Rock in Caesars, was an invitation only tournament that attracted many well know poker pros and celebrities, including Jamie Gold (2006 WSOP Main Event Winner), David Daneshgar (2008 WSOP Bracelet Winner), Mekhi Phifer (Actor ER/8 Mile), as well as "The Simpsons" co-creator Sam Simon.
