Following weeks of speculation, the World Poker Tour (WPT) have officially announced that the Borgata Poker Open has been removed from their tour schedule for Season VII. The popular $10,000 main event tournament was due to take place at the end of January and be broadcast on the cable TV station Fox Sports Net.
Borgata have confirmed that they will be replacing the WPT event with with their own tournament, which will take place during their 2009 Borgata Winter Poker Open. While dates and guarantees have yet to be finalised, it's understood the new series will culminate with a $3,000+$200 main event.
Last years main event was won by Gavin Griffin, who came out on top of field of 507 players to take home $1,401,109 in prize money.
No information was given on why this years event was cancelled or whether the Borgata Poker Open would reappear in Seaon 8
