The schedule for the annual World Series Of Poker (WSOP) 2009 has been announced and will run May 26 – July 15 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. To mark its 40th anniversary, the WSOP will run 57 bracelet events, 2 more than last year.
The poker extravaganza will focus mainly on variations of Holde'm, although there will be plenty of H.O.R.S.E, Omaha, Razz and Seven Card Stud tournaments as well.
A major change this year has been the elimination of buy-in events following accusations that professional poker players were abusing the events inorder to obtain a bracelet.
To celebrate its 40th anniversary, WSOP will be offering a special $40,000 No-Limit Hold'em event that will take place on May 28.
The $10,000 main event will begin on July 3rd. Like 2007, the final table will again be delayed for 4 months to allow ESPN to show the climax on prime time TV. WSOP hope that resuming the action on November 7th will be another ratings winner.
Last years event attracted 58,720 entrants and amassed a record prize pool of $180,000,000. Peter Eastgate defeated Ivan Demidov to win the 2008 WSOP Main Event and become the youngest champion in the history of the no-limit Texas Hold 'em main event.
